Subaru World Rally Team

Based upon a concept sketch, we were asked to design and produce a stylish, demountable structure which serves as the service area for up to three Subaru World Rally cars. Part of the brief was that all wires for lighting and power should be hidden. In the main truss rig, all lighting is recessed into the truss and custom power sockets are attached at the end of each length. Any necessary wiring is concealed, either within the main truss tubes, or behind lighting panels, ensuring a sleek appearance, inside and out. The roof cover and side panels were custom made, with a built-in tensioning system. The structure is 18m long, 9m wide and, at its highest point, 4m high.

Two 6.5m towers, each using four truss columns culminating in a pyramid roof cap, support an adjustable (2m increments) horizontal heavy duty banner frame. At its widest extension, the Start/Finish gantry is 16m wide.

Its horizontal banner frame can be positioned at any height up to 6m. At the base of each tower is a cradle structure which holds two steel water ballast tanks. Once filled thesetanks allow the structure to be freestanding, without the need for guy wires.
