Renault F1 Telemetry Pod
Having worked with the Williams F1 team, we were approached by Renault, for the design and manufacture of a trackside telemetry pod. The brief required the structure to be as light as possible and quick to assemble/dismantle using the fewest tools. The pods frames are made from 2" diameter 16swg polished tube. Its base section has 8 adjustable feet, built into the stool jousings, for levelling. The sections are all secured using Litestructures' patented expanding spigots, together with coffin locks to create a strong and rigid structure. We worked closely with Renault to make sure that all the electronics, screens and covers would fit neatly into and onto the structure. Even the stool seats have a screw-down and rotate boss fixture, custom designed by Litestructures. For transportation between events, the whole 4.5m x 2.8m x 1.5m structure breaks down to fit customised flightcases. This design proved so practical that a second, 4 seat version was commissioned for use by the test team.
