The St. John's shopping centre in Leeds faces intense competition, both from within the city and beyond. Their architctural consultants approached Barrisol stretch ceilings about a free-form structure, using Barrisol fabric to form a centrepiece for this important retail space. Barrisol in turn, asked Litestructures to liaise with the architects and design, build and install a suitable structure to which their stretch fabric could be attached to good effect. Constrained only by overall size and by the need for a single tube structure, Litestructures produced and fabricated the design. This was then installed to site by the Litestructures team prior to the arrival of Barrisol, who then fitted the stretch fabric. It is a feature of the shape produced that only minimal bracing was required to compensate for the pull exerted by the stretched material.
