The Litestructures design and build teams are capable of achieving astoundingly rapid response times. They can also improvise. All of these talents were brought to bear in meeting the challenge posed by an order from Xscape, the giant leisure complex in nearby Castleford. Litestructures were asked to design, manufacture and install a custom staircase for public use in the brand new Xercise gym facility within the complex. So far, so good. The deadline timing from order to installation was just three weeks, and the gym itself was to begin operating in just two. This meant that, firstly, Litestructures had to furnish it with a temporary facility for the 'missing' week and then, because the gym was operational, install the final staircase design overnight in a 9 hour window while the gym was closed. Not so easy. For the temporary structure, Litestructures Rental Department stepped in with our modular LiteDeck staging system plus matching step units, complete with fitted handrails. Normally, these units would be used in touring gigs and outdoor concerts. Adroit thinking, stock availability and the inherent adaptability of the LiteDeck system smartly solved this problem. The final staircase, entirely a Litestructures in-house design, was
given a modern, sleek look and feel, using a three tube truss system
based on our Astralite 03 truss, with oak treads and a glass handrail
on each side, a style note offset by the use of plain aluminium, mill
finish, for the individual stairframes. The main truss frame was constructed
in six parts with the treads already attached. This frame took 4 men
just 3 hours to erect and fix to wall and floor. The remaining five hours
was spent fixing the oak treads and the glasswork into their finished
positions. We feel that this 'Xercise' demonstrates many of our company's
